WITNESS
Single: MALICE
Release Date: 30.01.25
Scottish melodic hardcore band WITNESS will release their 4th single “Malice” on 30th of January. After listening to the band’s previous three singles, I can say that they surprised me in the best way possible.
“Malice” definitely made me go WOW
A slightly mysterious and beautiful intro opens up and quickly takes you into a thoughtful opening section. The band’s new promo photo for this track “Malice”, which you might have seen, fits perfectly well with the first part of the song. It seems to be capturing a sentimental reflection on life itself. While you might be deep in thought, around the 30 second mark, the unclean vocals blast in almost unexpectedly. They assure you that you are going to be mesmerised. The sound gets a lot heavier along as the powerful vocals soar. Even though the track only has a modest amount of breakdowns, their breakdowns towards the third transition are unique. The drums make each transformation around this point especially convincing, backed by an appealing string section. Section by section, the slow paced melodic tune becomes fast and fierce. Where the vocals are clean are authentic and heartfelt, and express the sorrow without overpowering which eases the tension. The sound effects where the climax starts are cleverly done and naturally blend in well. What stands out for me most are the unclean vocals, they’re exceptional.
WITNESS have skilfully crafted “Malice” similarly to how a play would be written, and they successfully created a stunning and mature piece. “Malice” will captivate an even wider audience. I have a very positive feeling about WITNESS.

WITNESS so far and going forward
WITNESS are still a relatively new band. Although the members originally played in different bands and have known each other for a while, they decided to come together and become a band under the name of WITNESS. Being an unsigned band is difficult and they are all limited by their own circumstances. It’s not easy to just go to a studio, record a track or two, then put them up on well-known platforms. So, I gather that just over a year ago, the quartet felt it was time that they were ready to surface on the scene. Their ten plus years of live experiences in Scotland led the band to release their debut single “Remember” at the end of March 2024. This track managed a huge feat in really winning me over, so we immediately arranged an interview. It was broadcasted worldwide five days after the release.
In 2024, following several local shows in Scotland, the band went on a successful mini tour on the UK with England-based Hell Can Wait. In 2025, expect much more from WITNESS!
