Hailing from Salisbury, UK, NEXT STOP OLYMPUS have started causing a riot as colossal as their name might suggest, with the release of their new EP ‘Heart, Mind & Hell’.
Mixing the heavy breakdowns and screaming vocals of Metalcore with the intricate guitars and anthemic choruses of classic Rock n’ Roll, which the band have crafted their own unique brand of Modern Metalcore, riddled with nostalgic vibes that will have you banging your head & raising your horns to the sky!
Matt Gray, the bassist and vocalist talks about ‘Heart, Mind & Hell’, “The EP highlights a person’s journey through the betrayal and collapse of any relationship and turning to personally destructive tendencies as a means to cope before ultimately giving in to the personal demons simmering at the surface.”
Also Conor McEniry, the lead vocalist tells, “We took a massive step up with every aspect of this EP, from the writing process to the recording. Taking a much more personal route with the way we put the songs together to tell the story that each member of the band can relate to.”
One song especially you need to pay attention is ‘The Ignorance of Us’. Conor explains to us, “Sometimes when words have failed you, all you have left is to scream. The Ignorance of Us is a reminder not to break yourself to fix another, with the desperation that comes with a splintered connection. The song follows the emotional journey through a relationship that is falling apart, with one side refusing to take any of the responsibility for their involvement in its demise! This song is all about release; the embodiment of frustration, anger and despair all in one massive punch of Anthemic Metalcore.”

Mercury Machine Debut Album: Mercury Machine Release Date: 15th February 2019
Hailing from Manchester, Mercury Machine are an 80s inspired Dark Electro band. From their home in an old Cotton Mill in East Manchester, they have been plotting their world domination, finely tuning their sound and planning ahead. After releasing several singles in 2018, they were finally ready to release their self-titled debut album. The release was supported by a sold out album launch show at Manchester’s iconic venue Night People in February 2019, which brought attentions to reviewers. The buzz led them to perform at Juwenalia Music Festival in Warsaw, Poland. This festival is described as the largest music festival in Central and Eastern Europe, last year attracting up to 30,000 people per day. The quintet are now playing gigs throughout Europe to promote their music in 2019.
The centre of the Machine is Lee Maguire with the mathematical mastermind. The
influence of his autism is reflected in the subject and sound of the music, with
continuing themes of isolation and stifled communication flowing throughout their
work. The other parts of the Machine are: Tim Burge (Lead Guitar), Gav Foley
(Drums), Carl Street (Bass) and Kade ‘the Kid’ Daniels (Keyboards). Their live set is electronically centred and an almost orchestral in the size of the sound. RMCK Debut EP: RMCK Release Date: 19th June 2017
Hailing from Belfast, RMCK is a post-rock and experimental project that plays extremely loud, heavily distorted banjo, and uses loops to create hypnotic swirls of sound. I am familiar with the tunes performed with violin and loops, but this is the first time I am listening to the sound of the combination of banjo and loop. RMCK‘s music is unique, cosmical and authentically dreamy.
RMCK works alone and is solely interested in crafting music that he finds interesting. It is not yet known if RMCK will perform live. Solid Choice know who RMCK is, but respect his wishes regarding his anonymity. Just enjoy the music!

Hailing from Birmingham, a powerful rock trio Templeton Pek have just released their stunning album “Watching The World Come Undone”.
They are the most exciting political melodic hardcore bands of our time, and the band prove it with their new release.
Templeton Pek are pondering the question why we as human beings sabotage our political climate, our environment and ourselves. After a historically unique seventy-year period of peace in Europe, the band’s home country is isolating itself, submitting millions of people to a hopeless situation. Musically and lyrically, “Watching The World Come Undone” is the strongest record of the band’s career to date and deals, along with the political component, with existential questions, presenting a previously unknown diversity. Vocalist Neal Mitchel says: “It’s as close to a concept album as we could get. From day one of writing the album, we had a clear idea of its vibe and general feel.” “Watching The World Come Undone” is a very personal analysis of an increasingly complex and confusing world. The fictitious city on the artwork emphasises the band’s fixation with the self-destruction of mankind and is, according to Neal, part of the total work of art that is “Watching The World Come Undone”: “Like earth itself we start off with abundant green landscapes, like the innocence of our youth. We then gradually go on to obstruct, develop and pollute it beyond recognition, the colours oppose each other and are radically different, the orange cutting crudely and uncomfortably through the calm green.”
After ten active years since they formed in in music, the band has earned itself the status of veterans of the melodic hardcore scene and has correspondingly high expectations of its latest release: Neal tells “From the beginning we wanted this to be one of the albums that contain one great song after the other.” Every one of the ten tracks had to have single potential. They wanted their album number five to be a testament to their current creative power. The trio teamed up with fellow Brummie Davey Warsop (Badcop Badcop, Vanishing Line), and the result is an album that asks the right questions at the right time, that tackles the important problems of the world and that for Templeton Pek themselves with “Watching The World Come Undone” is their most mature and considered offering to date.

Flare Voyant are a London based multi national rock ‘n’ roll band, and released their self-titled debut EP on 15th November. The quartet keeps the jazzy and funky vibes through out the 5 track EP. You can sense that the band were influenced strongly by some artists in ’60s and ’70s, the Rolling Stones in particular. In fact, this EP was produced by legendary producer Chris Kimsey after the band’s early demo caught his attention, and was recorded at Eastcote studios, London in January 2017.

The Franklys

Swedish British combo The Franklys are set to release their third single ‘Keeper’ from their debut album ‘Are You Listening?’ which was released in June this year. Just before their single release, the band dropped the music video for ‘Keeper’ this week.
Inspired by the indie rock scene in the UK, Swedish Jennifer Ahlkvist and Fanny Broberg moved to London to embark on something compelling and new. The girls crossed paths with East Anglian bassist Zoë Biggs and adding drummer Lexi Clark, they bonded over their love of rock music, coffee and second-hand clothes – The Franklys were formed. Since then, The Franklys have created something unique, commonly described by themselves as “frenetic garage rock with heavy and psychedelic overtones”. They are one of the bands you need to keep eyes on especially on the London rock scene.
The band have built a reputation for themselves as one of the most exciting live bands on the London circuit and beyond with relentless touring across the UK, Europe and America the past couple of years. They are best known for being a band that can’t be pigeonholed, and have proved that by making festival appearances at both Isle of Wight 2015, Download Festival 2016 and Rebellion Festival 2017.

Cleargreen
Debut Single: Stargazed

Formed in 2012, Cleargreen have been well known in the Manchester independent music scene and have a variety of influences coming from genres such as alternative indie, mod, and rock and roll. Almost a year on from being tipped by Fred Perry Subculture as one of ‘20 Manchester bands you need to hear now’, the band aims to live up to and exceed these high expectations. Today, the band released their debut single “Stargazed”. It seems like the quartet have their own textbook, and followed it to craft this new song superbly.
Fresh off the back of a summer packed with gigs including a support slot at Dantevilles’ show at Sound Control, as well as appearances at various festivals, some of which include Sonder Festival and Blackthorn Festival, Cleargreen are looking to kick-start Autumn 2017 by making a big impact on the independent scene. Their forthcoming show will be held at Rebellion Bar, Manchester on Saturday 14th October, which cannot be missed.

British singer songwriter from Greater Manchester, Lou Foulkes released his new single “Falling Asleep” on 18th August.
Following self-releasing his debut EP ‘Grin & Bear It’ in 2016, which garnered a reasonable amount of attention in the UK and Europe, Foulkes did a very intimate acoustic show in London that was attended by people from as far as Finland. Then he was invited to make an appearance on one of the UK’s favourite soaps, “Emmerdale” as a busker. After recording his new material earlier this year, Foulkes is eager to get his new music out there and looks forward to the next chapter in his career. He is the one to watch out this year.

Hailing from Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, Erica is a three piece rock band that makes huge tunes. Following their second album “Hollow Moon” which was released in August 2016, Erica finally released the new single “Human” on 12th August. The vocalist and guitarist Dalton Woodward shows flexibility with his authentic vocals. Erica is very talented and dynamic. Is there any room for more improvement? The young band have set the bar very high.

Having now enjoyed success twice in a national battle of the band’s competitions, Erica has been streamed live to over 2 million viewers on Italian television station RAI in April 2017 and opened V Fest in Chelmsford in 2015.
Their debut album ‘Sons of the High Land,’ released in 2014 and was credited with 4/5 stars by Kerrang.
Erica is regularly played on radio stations in the United Kingdom and worldwide, also has been interviewed and had tracks broadcast on BBC Introducing.
The band has played many festivals including Ryderfest, Tadstock, RovinFest, Off The Tracks and Livestock. They played the main stage again this year at Lakefest where they have become firm favourites. In addition to this, they are playing both North and South Carfest events this year, an event organised by Chris Evans for Children in Need.

Hailing from Chelmsford, England, Hemmingway craft and bring their own unique sound with elements of drum and bass, grime, electro and pop together. Their debut single ‘Rise Again’ was released on July 27th, which was supported by their special launch show on the same day. It has received great support, and the track has been played on BBC Introducing as well as Phoenix FM the most established station in Essex, and many more.
They have spent much of 2017 in the studio, writing and recording their self-titled debut EP, which is due out in September this year. Lyrically, the duo do not shy away for controversy. Their songs range from commenting on domestic violence, immigration and austerity to name a few. Always socially conscious, they hope to strike a chord in listeners’ hearts, whilst shaking the foundations of every venue they play with their huge sound.

Hailing from Liverpool, indie alternative pop-rock band Black Pulp have just released their new single “Six Miles”. This song is even more polished than their previous songs. The last single “Cry Again” received over 130,000 streams on Spotify. Black Pulp bring such a fresh sound with “Six Miles”, and it is the must hear song this Summer.
Black Pulp are a four piece band taking influences from Indie, Rock and Pop to create encapsulating guitar music that stands on its own two feet.
Since the band’s inception, they have released three official singles, all of which have had support and airplay on various BBC Introducing shows. The band have recently been featured in the Manchester Evening News’ as the ‘Bands and acts to watch out for in 2017’

Escapade

Hailing from Leicester and formed in October 2015, a Brit-rock band Escapade released their new single “Red Sky” on 2nd June 2017.
The East Midlands quartet have nurtured a sound inspired by Britpop/Psychedelic Rock, but with a captivating character of its own which has grown song by song.

Luna Rosa
Single: Mercurial Man

Exactly a year go, I reviewed Luna Rosa‘s single “This One (High On The Groove)” just before it was released. The song was from their latest self-titled EP. Luna Rosa are an alternative indie rock band hailing from Corby, Northamptonshire. Recently I was very excited to hear that they were releasing a new single.
“Mercurial Man” is constructed with three moods, which makes the song a more interesting kind psychedelic-indie-rock’n’roll. The band show signs of a jazz influence or background which they have brought into indie rock. This is one of the elements that leads to the band being unique.
