AXIOM Debut EP: Metathesis Release: 25th October 2019
Hailing from Birmingham, AXIOM are an instrumental progressive rock band and formed in early 2017.
“Metathesis” is the first release from AXIOM. Consisting of four short (by prog standards) but incredibly sweet instrumental bangers that truly capture the band’s reputable live sound. However, they also manage to pull off the incredible task of providing intricately crafted prog jams without falling into the same bad habits of many other prog musicians. “Metathesis” is recorded live with no overdubs, and despite this minimal instrumentation, the trio still bring enough prowess and power between them to carry these songs without the need for vocals.
From the serene King Crimson-esque guitar play of opening track “Slumber” which explodes into a wall off massive riffs and pummelling drums to dark and tense “Serpentine”. AXIOM manage to create substantially entertaining progressive rock songs that provide a musical journey without ever overstaying their welcome. The powerful lead single “Believe” and the epic riff monster “Scared” just bring home why AXIOM are a band that not only crush it on the stage, but also in the studio too. These tracks are destined to be played by these three guys in the same room at the same time, and as long as they stick to their guns with future releases, AXIOM might just be the breath of fresh air the progressive rock scene needs.
AXIOM are created by three buddies;
Josh Ainsworth – Drums
Stuart Drinkwater – Bass
Zaid Crowe – Guitar
Between them, the trio have a wide range of musical influences from jazz/funk to math rock to metal, and their music incorporates a little bit of all of them. Audiences have heard influences from; Toska, Plini, Intervals and Alpha Male Tea Party in what they do.
