Greyhaven – Breathe

Artist: Greyhaven
New EP: Breathe
Release Date: 12th January 2018

London based alt rock band Greyhaven were formed in 2014, since then the band have been on a swift upward trajectory with their two EPs.

Their debut EP The Flood was released in March 2015, and along with their constant live performances they built a loyal London-area fanbase. In September 2016, Greyhaven released their second EP State Of Mind, which was produced by Daniel Kerr (Shields, Create To Inspire, Despite My Deepest Fear and more) of Avenue Studios, and with this EP the band really took flight. They toured the UK extensively in support of the EP and released three well-received videos.

Recently, Greyhaven revealed their blistering new 4-track EP Breathe to be released via Outsider Records, on 12th January 2018. This EP parcels a modern alt rock loaded with colossal riffs, hooky refrains, vocal melodies and radical yet crafty guitar work.  This week, we caught up with the band to talk about their new EP, songwriting, shows and themselves. You can find the interview below this page.

Without any notice, Greyhaven kindly took sometime out to be interviewed by us. You can find out a little more about the band and their music.

Hello, Greyhaven! Very excited to talk to you today!
First of all, could you introduce yourselves?

Thank you for having us! We’re Sam on vocals, Alex on guitar, Connor on drums, Jack on bass and Adam on guitar.

Thank you. Could you tell us how you all met up and became a band?

Sam and I (Alex) were in a band together about five years ago, when we both left that band we started work on a new band which ended up becoming Greyhaven. We knew Connor from his old band and everything just kind of fell into place from there. When we lost our bassist and guitarist this year, we started asking people for recommendations and that’s where we found Adam and Jack.

Great. How do you normally go about writing your songs?

Most of our stuff is written as instrumentals and then we start adding the lyrics later. We find ourselves doing large amounts of our pre production with a friend in Reading, as it often helps to not have to worry about the production, so we can focus solely on the music.

That’s fortunate. Who are your influences? Does everyone listen to similar music or musicians?

We have a very mixed music taste, but we do have a lot in common. The band draws it’s sound from the Post Hardcore and Arena Rock sound that started in the past decade, so bands like Bring Me The Horizon, Alexisonfire, Emarosa and bands like that are what we feel our sound is somewhat similar to.

You are categorised as alt rock. Though I can see where your sound comes from. You have just released the music video for the single “Truth” on YouTube. Could you tell us about this song?

“Truth” is a protest song at it’s core. Lyrically it talks about standing up for what you think is right and not allowing the world to change for the worse without your voice being heard. Musically it’s quite a simple song, based around 1 main riff that came from a jam session a few years back.

So, this song is included in your forthcoming EP “Breathe”. How would you describe this EP?

We think “Breathe” is definitely our best work yet, but it’s sure to have some surprises on it for our long time fans. We think people are going to love it though!

I’m very sure they will! I heard that Daniel Kerr from Avenue Studios worked with you. How did it go?

It’s always fun working with him! We did our last EP “State Of Mind” with him and we thought it made sense to go back considering how well that turned out. He always has a habit of getting the best takes out of us and you can really hear it on the final product.

Brilliant! “Breathe” is going to be released very soon! How are you feeling about it right now?

We’re aching to get it out at this point. I don’t think we’ve had such a long wait to release music since we started this band!

I can understand you. It’s been a long time since “State Of Mind” and you recorded “Breath” a while back early this year. Are you planning to do a special EP launch show?

We’ve got a show at the Crowndale in Camden on the 12th of January with support from MSRY, Spreading The Disease, Take The Backseat Casey and a few more TBA as well. It’s looking like it’s going to be a great night!

Sounds awesome! I can say from my experience that your show is exciting with a lot of energies. But can I ask what gig goers should expect from you?

Just a great Rock show and some questionable dance moves.

Haha that’s encouraging! Is there anything else you would like to say?

We just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who’s supported us this far. Hopefully we’ll make you all proud with this next release!

Thank you very much for your time! Good luck!

Thank you for having us!
