New Single: Skyhigh

Hailing from Cambridgeshire, an indie singer/songwriter Tom Lumley will release his new single ‘Skyhigh’ on 15th March. With releasing his debut EP ‘Dream City’ and a single ‘Just Like the Light’ last year, his music gained radio airplay widely in the country, which includs the constant support from his local BBC Introducing show and has been tipped on Huw Stephens BBC Radio 1 show as ‘an exciting Cambridge artist to look out for’ by Fred Bambridge.

‘Skyhigh’ is clearly the strongest song which Tom has ever recorded. His voice is authentic, and this mid-tempo pop song is supported by rather appealing guitar sounds. You will find the harmonised choruses are very pleasant. I am sure that ‘Skyhigh’ will be very popular and will be a fantastic singalong song at his shows.

 

A few days ago Tom kindly took some time out of his busy schedule to be interviewed by us. Here it is:

Hello, Tom! Thanks to talk to us today! You are just about to release the new single ‘Skyhigh’. How would you describe this song?

It’s a bit different to our previous releases. I’d like to think our indie sound is still dominant but with a slight pop side to it this time.

Is it available for streaming right now? Where can we find the song for downloading when it’s released?

It’s not yet, but will be available on all digital platforms on March 15th.

Great! How do you normally go about writing your songs?

I tend to write my songs by myself with an acoustic guitar. I always get the chords down first then see what comes out vocally over the top.

Okay. Who are your influences? Does everyone in your band listen to similar music or musicians?

We all listen to similar music to be honest. We’re big fans of up and coming music and especially the local Cambridge scene which is booming at the moment. Influence wise we’re big fans of Arctic Monkeys, Catfish and the Bottlemen, The Wombats etc…

I see. You seem to be very active with live performance. Do you have a special show planned for the release?

Yeah, we’re pretty much carrying on the non stop gigging from last year. We have a single launch show at The Portland Arms in our hometown of Cambridge on March 15th. It’s very close to selling out. So anyone who wants to come should grab their tickets quick! 

That’s fantastic. What should we gig goers expect from your live shows?

I feel like our live show is where we come alive. We’re a very energetic band and love being on the stage performing to people. Credit to our fan base, they always seem to give that energy back to us and bring the noise too.

It sounds like fun! You must be very excited about the release! 

We’re very excited. We just can’t wait to get it out there now.

Are we expecting an EP or album following this single?

At the moment, no. We’re going to stick to releasing singles for a while whilst we try build our fan base and more excitement around the releases. Hopefully we will be in a position to record an album one day soon.

I hope so too. What is coming from Tom Lumley next?

We’re just going to carry on playing live, lots of festivals and keep releasing music which hopefully everyone enjoys.
