Weight Bearer Album: Watch the Collapse Release: 24 January 2020
Hailing from Preston, the north-west of England, Weight Bearer are a 6-piece metal band and formed in 2016. Influenced by Twelve Tribes, The Mire, Erra, Northlane, Zao, Year Of No Light, Cloudkicker and Katatonia, the band demonstrate dynamic, uncompromising music with a blend of metallic and progressive sounds. Their debut album Watch the Collapse is a long-awaited release for both the band and the fans.
Disengage – the 1st track of the album already has us captured knowing what’s going on in the world today and the fear of the unknown is a heavy punchy growl of destroy this world.
Culture Coma – the band shows off catchy riffs, it’s a best song on the album in my opinion, if you would like to elaborate some more… Guitar riffs catch your ear instantly and you know the rest of the song will be as good as the beginning.
Merchant Of None – it is a great way to start a song which is already heading into the heavy waves of riffs and the vocal screams that are capturing all round the atmospheric backgrounds.
This Mind Alive – thrashey drum beats while remaining to their djent roots and long melodic choruses, that’s being the last track is a great way to end a greatly produced album.
Shadow of reality and Reason is dead are also great tracks. Another thing I would like to point out is that Caustic Breath‘s outro flows into Paths Of Dissension which gives the album a very different feel with a slow melodic build up, and it gives a more relaxed heavy atmosphere for the middle of Watch the Collapse, and it does change the dynamic of each track breaking out into one another.
There is a good mix down into each track and has a great work flow throughout the album. I could defiantly see this band pulling off a great show in the near future after all the bands are allowed to tour again. Over all I would give this album a 8/10.
