The 5 piece modern metal outfit NO:IR is back with their fourth release in Placebo. They are a unit recognized by their unique blend of influences. Placebo is no different as an ever-escalating feel train that comes with its own bevy of emotions expressed in tantalizing unique ways.
The song begins with a beautiful slow atmospheric lead reminiscent of rainy day’s lofi playlists, accompanied by delicate soothing yet unsettling vocals that paint a picture of loneliness and longing to striking effect.
It progressively builds up to a boiling point and explodes with frustrations in a powerful expressive groove hook that moves feet off the ground and into the air, before seamlessly dropping back to calmer waters in melodic transitions executed with expert’s ease.
The song invokes a painful sentiment of loss or being lost in general and builds on this emotion throughout the song, climaxing after the second hook with a hard-hitting breakdown outro where the desperation takes over and steers all thought.
The band tells us; ‘Placebo’ explores the weight of an overwhelming amount of emotions that you struggle to know how to deal with.
Placebo is an amazing song that slots well into almost any playlist ranging from rock to the heavier end of hardcore. It is a gentle experience with the added spice that doesn’t lose any of its zest over countless listens.
