One of my local and favourite bands, We Were Lions have been featured in my blog a lot.
Earlier in the week, which was only a few days after the gig I went to, I found that one of the original members, the drummer, Dan Vinnicombe departed the band. I can’t still get over this terribly sad news. So I decided to write this post, it is rather personal.
On Thursday (30/10/14), they posted the official announcement on Facebook.
Here is what they said;
We Were Lions
It is with great sadness that we have to announce the departure of our drummer Dan from We Were Lions. Dan was a founding member of the band and his drumming set the tone for our energetic live shows and fast paced musicianship for the last four years. Dan will always be a great drummer, but more importantly, our best friend. We wish him all the luck in the world with his future endeavours.
“After a great deal of thought, it is with much sadness that I have decided to call it a day with We Were Lions. I have had an amazing time with the band over the years and have made some great friends along the way. But now it’s time for a change; I’ll still be playing my drums but I’ll be doing it for my pure love of music. Thanks everyone for your support. Dan x”
As for the rest of us, we’re taking the rest of 2014 to ponder the future of WWL, and hope to be back in the new year with some updates. We’ll try and be as active as we can on here and twitter in the meantime.
From Lloyd, Phil, Rob and James, we thank you for your continued support.
I wish We Were Lions and Dan the very best for their future including the search for a new drummer and a new band.
If you have a time, I would like you to share their music and listen to how Dan played his drums with We were Lions. In my opinion, “Silver Medal” in their first EP”Rebirth” is the best track to listen to awesome drumming.
