Aviana 23.05.19 Underworld, London Headliner: The Word Alive Support: Make Them Suffer, Of Virtue and Aviana
Hailing from Gothenburg on the Swedish West Coast, Aviana have made one of the most successful debut release in Scandinavian modern music history with ‘Polarize‘ in 2017. Almost two years on, they recently released two new singles ‘My Worst Enemy’ and ‘Heavy Feather’ which is taken from their forthcoming album ‘EPICENTER’ due to be released on 23rd of August.
So, I had heard about Aviana because of this tour. I was so excited to see them when I looked up their single ‘My Worst Enemy.’ These guys are really the one what the underground scene thrives. They are incredibly professional tight band. They did not look out of place playing next to the other bands on the bill. They brought so much energy from the first song. I genuinely thought they made a high impact. This band were so tight, it was a mystery how the room only had roughly 100 people at this point. The opener really gave a taste for the rest of the set. I got a huge ‘Any Given Day’ vibe, which was certainly not disappointing. I couldn’t help but see the similarities to the UK’s own Loathe and Lotus Eater a few songs in. When I heard ‘My Worst Enemy’, I was shocked at how close to the studio sound they got. The room was not ready. Joel Holmqvist, their vocalist really reminded me of Danny Warsnop when he played with ‘Suicide Silence’. His presence and ability belong in this band. Bassist Sebastian Colque was such a good supporting role. The thing that stood out to me about Sebastian was how similar his vocals sounded to Joel’s. It really was like listening to an album live with a great show attached. Niclas, their drummer was like watching midi play on Ez Drummer. He hit so hard the entire time and didn’t miss a beat. I was incredibly impressed with Aviana. Check them out! Aviana (7.5/10)
